The 30 bed facility was constructed under P21 for Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust with IHP as the PSCP.

The new unit has curved forms to aid sight lines and create a non-institutional solution, using concepts from Holland and Sweden. Using a variation on the cortyard theme, the new building is a flagship facility for the Trust and will satisfy the current guidance for the service.

The scheme has recently been submitted for the BBH Award  (building better healthcare) for Best Mental Health Design.
